Third Year: First Semester
Aristotle once said, "The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet". That's true! A lot of hardships may come our way while struggling doing school stuffs but by the time we reach the point where in our professor hands our diploma to us, wohoooo! that will be one of our greatest achievement in life.
I am Faith and I am currently a struggling 3rd year college student taking up the course program BS Pharmacy. It's true when they say that once you reach 3rd year, hell is in every corner trying to burn you. (I never expected it will be this hard)
I experienced a lot of first times during the first semester. First I got a position in the Student Council that made me really busy. As part of the council, it was my first time I got to organize 2 huge events for the college starting from the Acquaintance Party where in we prepare every single detail like doing reservation for the venue, withdraw money worth a hundred thousand bucks, do series of meetings and go home late in the evening.
Second was during Intramural. It was my first time to stay in school the whole day and go home on the next day then sleep for 2 hours take a bath then off to school again. I was referring to our water booth activity and choir practices.
Every Saturday 12nn-4:30pm I do have my class for minor subjects. During the Intramurals' preparation week after my 3pm class which is Foreign Language (Hola mi amigos y amigas!) I went straight to our choir practice
and stayed there until 8pm then ate our dinner then proceed to our next activity which is the making of the water booth where we also went to the local market at 10pm to buy coconut (luckily there are still open fruit stands) then went to 7/11 after to buy masking tapes and art papers then back to school. We were up all night preparing. It was 1am when we went to our designated place and put up our booth.
It was 4am when the University Run started. We then started serving drinking water to the runners and greet them with full energy a "Good Morning! Water from the College of Pharmacy!" (It was tiring but we really had fun.)
It was 6am when we cleaned up our place and went home. By the time I reached home, I went straight to my bed and slept. After having a 2-hour sleep, I took a bath then went to school again since we have 10:30am call time. So I rode a taxi and wasted a hundred pesos just for me not to be late. (Travel time from home to school: 30 minutes if no heavy traffic and up to 1 hour if there is heavy traffic).
At 11am we had our choir practice and props making. I was still so sleepy due to lack of sleep but I just try to enjoy what I'm doing so that I won't feel the tiredness.
So we stayed in school until 9pm. Speaking about food, we ate Mcdo's Chicken Fillet from Saturday Lunch to Sunday dinner. (Every meal is just that chicken fillet and I think I could not take to eat another chicken fillet again! hahaha)
On the next day, I have a 7:30am call time for General Information Quiz bowl. I never really had proper review for that event since I really got no time for that. hahaha. I was really sleepy that day and I really don't know if I could still think properly hahaha luckily we placed 4th among the 8 colleges (the College of Dentistry only had a one point lead against us -_-')
After that quiz bowl I rushly went to our assigned room for choir. I was really nervous since I haven't thoroughly practiced the actions yet and I think I only practiced it twice then that's it! off to go! (like wth? We'll be presenting in a very huge crowd then I haven't really practice the steps that much??! Oh Goddess of Dance please help me! hahaha)
So after that awful performance we had (well I must admit, it was really awful since we only had 1 week to prepare compared to other colleges that they really practiced for 1 month -_-' ), I and the members of the council organized things up. Woooo! that was really sooooo tiring but it was really fun most especially when you realized you lack to order 2 Ladies small size shirts but instead of calling the tailor we just got another shirt, cut the sign that says Standard small and change it to Ladies small. Problem Solved! hahahaha (yea! I know we're the craziest bunch of people! HAHAHA)
Of course, as the elected auditor I need to audit all the expenses spent by the college (Well, I'm not just an Auditor, I consider myself an "All-around officer" who does anything.hahaha) I and the council's treasurer (Special Shout out to Tesse!) often spend almost 3 hours in coffee shops doing those auditing stuffs to be presented to the Dean and the Student Council's Advisers. It is where you read every single receipt you receive, add things up to the last centavo, recalculate again because often times we commit mistakes, encode the details and make a financial report. (pretty tough job they say)
After that stressful days of Intramural event, I and my squad went to Bohol and that was my first time to go out of town together with friends.
We went there for our Public Health project. The objective of our trip is to implore knowledge to people about how they should take care of their body. We conducted a short seminar and gave them packed lunch and freebies. It was really fun since our participants were little grade school kids. We mingled with them and jammed on their favorite songs and played some games.
At night we went to their night market, ate street foods and did some sight seeing.
On the next day, we went on a quick trip to Bohol's famous destination, Chocolate hills!
After that wonderful experience, the saddest part heats up again. It's time so say goodbye to the beautiful Bohol and return to Cebu.
After that short vacation, back to reality! Here comes the study eat study study study routine. It was tough most especially when you're already third year, everyday exams, every night you gotta need to study until dawn to get lucky hahaha.
Every time our teacher send an email about the lecture I gotta need to transfer those MS Power point documents to MS Word and print it since I don't want to use my phone because my eyes hurt when I stare the screen too much.(. . . and I think I already wasted 500 sheets of short bond paper for that).
It was during the first semester also that I first drank coffee. (I'm not really a coffee drinker people hahaha) I just did it for the love of Pharma hahaha since I want to stay up late and study. It was also during this semester wherein no matter how you utilize your time, it is still lacking because of the things that you need to do. I realized TIME MANAGEMENT is really important.
The saddest part about being a 3rd year student? My daily allowance's percentage turns out to be 40% food and 60% photocopy. That's life! and oh, one more thing it is also during this semester where I've tried no lunch break schedule. Non-stop class from 9am up to 4:30pm (who do you think won't die???? hahaha For God's sake pleasee let me EAT!)
It was also during Third year first semester where I always had a 4 hour sleep (and you know what, that's already a blessing hahaha). Sleep is one of the things you need to sacrifice in college. I also tried having 2 hours of sleep during our Final Exam because Phamacognosy and Biopharmaceutics' coverage is just soooooo long.
It was also during this time where there's this subject that no matter how hard I study I still fail, fail, and fail. I've come to a point where I almost gave up because no matter how I study I still fail (presenting Pharmaceutical Chemistry folks! hahaha)
It was also during this semester that I've tried to fail one subject. Holy crap! This is the first time in my entire life that I've failed a subject. And now my college schedule will be a mess. I hope I could still graduate on time next school year.
Well, well, so much for those struggles this year, we also make it to a point to celebrate our birthdays dude haha.
How time flies, I could still remember the first time I first step in the University. I could still remember all those happenings when I was still a freshman.
I know in God's perfect time and plan I believe I will be able to surpass these struggles beneath college. Hint: Always pray for guidance and He will help you. Just believe in Him and everything will be ok.
Second semester is about to start I hope I'll survive this! Woooooo! *takes deep breath*

That night also, we were planning to do bonfire but since it rained outside we just decided to do the modern way of enjoying bonfire while burning our marshmallows using a lighter.
