Philippines: Pearl of the Orient

Philippines, my beloved country, has been known from all parts of the world. By the time Magellan's troop discovered this deserted island in Limasawa (as what history told me), Philippines is much known because of its spices and unique resources that none of the other countries could have. This was once called Las Islas Filipinas before it was actually called Pilipinas (in Tagalog) or Philippines (in English). Due to Spanish's colonization in the archipelago, Filipinos is also being colonized by some of the traditions and cultures of the Spaniards. One is the language, wherein some of the nation's island speaks a little Spanish. When it comes to food, paella, lechon, adobo, kaldereta, mechado, lumpia are just some of Spanish's influences. There are a lot I guess, I just won't mention all of those (laughs).

Well, it is not only Spain who colonized Philippines, there's America, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, and Great Britain as well. Among these countries, United States was the one who declared independence to the Philippines in the year 1898. From then on, Philippines is a free country. As years  went by, struggles, victories, mourn, shocking events, joyous moments wrapped this country to become a competitive and stronger one. As of this moment, President Benigno Aquino III currently leads the nation. In his leadership days, Philippines' economy rises up and for me this country is bound to become one of the world's richest country. Who knows? With every sweat from hard work and determination of the Filipinos there will be no doubt that our nation will soon stand and be known not only just with talents and intelligence but also because of its prosperity.

There's one thing I just would like to change in this country, and it is some of the people's greediness of money or should I say, "corruption in the government". Corruption may help politicians' life to become prominent, but how about those Filipinos who are suffering from sickness, poverty, hunger, lack of education, and other problems in which I think must be entertained by our leaders today. In line with this is my strong campaign of choosing the right leaders most especially this May 13, 2013, "Election Day". Think wise and don't be tempted.

Before I end this, maybe you had thought of my post's title? (laughs) Well, let me explain to you how Philippines got its nick name, "Pearl of the Orient". It is called "Pearl of the Orient" maybe simply because it is rich with beautiful pearls that makes Philippines a more attractive one.

Come, discover and explore Philippines this summer!

Proud to be part of Philippines' team!  :)
